Old Business and Approval of Meeting Minutes
Reviewed the minutes from the last meeting. Approved and posted on the website.
Data: Shared the Winter MAP and iReady Data.
Growth in every grade level. Explained the difference between growth and achievement. Reading has shown the highest gains, especially in literature comprehension. We reviewed the areas that represented growth and according to the grade levels. We discussed how Amira and iReady platforms are used in the building (classrooms) and at home.
PBIS Distinguished: Flippen was acknowledged as Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) School of Distinguishment. The state announced this distinction yesterday for reducing discipline, rewards and incentives, well-being lessons, and Social Skills Lessons (Second Step).
Business Partners/Community Relationship
We need some support in gaining more business and community partners to assist with several school needs: instructional materials and resources to supplement the lack of Title Funds, rewarding students, adding to general funds to purchase items for students, and celebrating staff and teachers. Some ideas noted that are school-wide.
School-wide Events: Ms. Wright mentioned the Fun Run (May 2025). We will collaborate on this for the Spring. Also noted was the Father and Daughter Dance for February 28th and Mother/Son Tea (?).
Dads and Donuts. We will look to develop a group in January. Once the group is formed, we can focus on dates and times for the men to convene. Mr. Collins will be available to support this team of men.
Title One meeting is set for January 17th at 8:30 with Dr. Hawks and Mr. Blevins.

Agenda approved by the council.
I want to thank Mrs. Pamela Stewart for surprising our staff and students with her Alvin and Chipmunk team. The kids were excited.
Enrollment: 547
Student Achievement:
Mrs. Olson, a reading interventionist, works with students daily on literacy foundations. Weekly monitoring helps tailor instruction to support students with reading struggles.
Student Achievement: According to Winter MAP Results, growth from the fall to winter median growth percentage in all grade levels (52%) school-wide, with 1st and 4th showing a 20 point gain, 2nd grade high growth and high achievement, and 3rd maintaining high achievement levels across all data assessment measures.
Our AMIRA mid-year data highlighting the percentage of students reading on/above grade level demonstrates an increasing total at or above district levels. Specifically, Kindergarten is at 92%, 2nd grade is at 89%, while 1st and 3rd grade are steady at 85%.
Attendance: 83% for January.
The CARES team, including the social worker, counselors, mental health and wellness facilitator, and attendance clerk, works to improve attendance.
-We address attendance issues proactively to prevent chronic absenteeism.
Ms. Stewart shared:
Homelessness is a growing issue in the community, with increasing foster care numbers and high homelessness rates.
Some children are being evicted from their homes, and some families have to move far away, disrupting their lives.
Homelessness includes living in shelters, with others, in cars, or doubling up. Our CARES and Counselors support Flippen scholars who are impacted by our outreach ministries, and SSW, Ms. Anderson checks in with parents.
School-wide Events: Ties and Tiara Dance. Friday, 2/28. Close to 270 have registered.
Dads and Donuts: 59 men showed up. Looking for opportunities for our fathers and father figures to be engaged in school-wide activities (visits, car/bus ramp, afterschool basketball game, breakfast and lunch buddies…) and Mr. Collins will lead the efforts.
Clubs increased this year with Spanish and Art added. We are looking for instruments for next year
iReady: concerned about funding for K-5 next year. I’m awaiting a meeting with the district on 2/28 to learn the district’s directions. If not, will apply for grants.
Behavior
- Behavior incidents have decreased from twenty-one in December to twenty-three in February, showing a positive trend. The school will continue its current support strategies.
Proposal for Summer School Program
Mr. Collins is interested in setting up a summer school program for kids from June to mid-July. Week-long break before starting a 4-6 week summer school program. Summer school: June to mid-July
